Artificial Intelligence: What it Means for Employee Engagement

Artificial intelligence is growing, and rapidly. Worldwide spending on artificial intelligence and cognitive systems will reportedly rise to $46 billion by 2020, while Gartner suggests that up to 6 billion connected “things” will require AI support by 2018. Aside from connectivity in our day to day lives,  artificial intelligence offers a wide variety of tools that can additionally be used to enhance workplace well being.

Last year, 270$ Million was spent within the United States alone on employee engagement. Yet only 37% of employees across the country are “highly engaged”. So how exactly can artificial intelligence help solve this problem?

Tracking Employee Engagement

One of the most effective methods to track engagement is direct employee feedback. Using natural language processing (NLP) organizations can enhance how leaders solicit and analyze feedback. NLP  not only makes it easy to take the pulse of an organization, it also allows for surveys that accurately convey employee sentiment. With better data and an ease of scalability, assessing engagement levels becomes more efficient, and convenient. The ability to accurately and easily gauge employee engagement enables organizations to offer up real solutions to engagement problems, rather than implementing a strategy that doesn’t meet employee needs.  In essence, today’s emerging artificial intelligence tools give leaders the opportunity to have a precise and measurable impact on employee engagement.

Engaging Remote Workers

Working remotely can be an isolating experience. Remote workers usually don’t have colleagues beside them, may often be out in the field, or travelling to a client. Imagine then, the impact on engagement and productivity having an assistant would provide. Imagine if that same assistant could process thousands of data points in order to help with daily tasks.  Picking the best time to make a call, or how long you should wait to follow-up with a prospect, for example. Virtual assistants can do just that. A virtual assistant helps increase productivity, and decrease time wasted, They offer a new way for employees to engage and interact. Removing the loneliness and frustration of remote workers can go a long way to improving their overall level of engagement and happiness at work.

 

 

Providing Direction

Organizations now have the possibility to implement employee chatbots. A chatbot can answer day to day questions that arise.It can help navigate company policy, and documents, and it can also point you in the right direction when the answer you are looking for is not readily available. A tool such as this eliminates some of the frustration that comes from working remotely. It can also help day-to-day employees with their everyday tasks. Providing them with insights and direction when they begin to feel lost or out of touch. Such an outlet helps employees feel more connected and ultimately more engaged, creating the perfect atmosphere for happier, more engaged employees.

Many artificial intelligence applications are still in the early development stage, and these are just some of the possibilities for the future of Artifical intelligence and employee engagement. By implementing thoughtful, and practical initiatives for your employees, you can create a positive work environment. Using artificial intelligence will add to that environment.
